Nahki Wells says he is honoured to have been voted PFA Fans' Player of the Month for his goalscoring exploits in September.

The Bristol City striker hit the target on three occasions and also provided an assist to secure the award.

Wells began the month on a solid note, scoring twice to guide City to their first away win of the season against Blackburn Rovers.

The Bermuda captain also found the back of the net on his return to former club Burnley at Turf Moor and had an assist also on the road away to Norwich.

“To receive the PFA Fan’s Player of the Month is an honour and it’s always great to receive these rewards because it reminds how well things are going for that period of time,” Wells told The Royal Gazette.

“I had a really good month of September. As a team we didn’t entirely because at the end we went on a run of not picking up points.

“But I was still able to be impactful and score some goals so I’m very happy for that.”

Wells has started the campaign strongly having scored six goals in all competitions so far.

His latest award is the second he has received in a month having also been named in the WhoScored.com Championship Team of the Month for September. The 32-year-old was also nominated for Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month.

Meanwhile, City will be keen to continue their winning ways when they host Millwall in the Championship at Ashton Gate today.

Nigel Pearson’s team secured their first league win in six outings after edging Preston North 2-1 on their home patch on Wednesday.

Wells, one of four changes Pearson made to his starting eleven from the previous match away to Birmingham City which ended in a 3-0 defeat, came on as a 86th minute substitute.

“We were delighted to get back to winning ways against Preston because they are a very difficult side,” Wells added.

“We showed a bit of a different dimension considering our vulnerabilities the game before against Birmingham.

“To win the game on set pieces showed another string to our bow as a team and it was not our usual scorers and attackers. It was a defender which shows how important it is a collective we are still able to win games, even if the forwards are not firing on all cylinders.”

Wells hopes his side, who site eleventh in the table, can come away with a favourable result and go on another run to get their promotion push back on track.

“We move into this weekend’s fixture against Millwall and just be looking to build again,” he said.

“We went on a good run last time after picking up our first win in the league and hopefully that will be the case now.

“Try and get a five, six or seven game winning run and try and claw ourselves back up and around the play-off places.”
