Industry veteran David Florian has been appointed chief executive officer at Aspida Life Re Ltd, the Bermudian-based life and annuity reinsurance company.

The company said Mr Florian is a seasoned reinsurance professional with an impressive history of building reinsurance businesses and solutions that have serviced the top insurance and reinsurance companies globally.

He joins from PartnerRe Ltd, where he was head of Global Life Financial Solutions.

In his new role as CEO of Aspida Re, Mr Florian will work closely with Jon Steffen, president of Aspida Re, to expand product offerings and reach out to other insurance clients.

While at PartnerRe Ltd, Aspida Re said, Mr Florian was responsible for building and overseeing the Global Financial Solutions business, leading an international team from North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions.

Before that, he worked at Wells Fargo Corporation for more than 16 years, where he served in various executive positions that most recently included executive vice-president and chief executive officer of its life and annuity reinsurance legal entities.

While there, Aspida Re said, he built a successful Bermudian-based reinsurance company, Union Hamilton Reinsurance Ltd, that focused on reinsurance solutions for large life and annuity carriers.

Mr Steffen said: “Given his expertise, level of experience and demonstrated record, David is uniquely positioned to provide the necessary leadership and direction as we continue to expand our focus geographically and strengthen our offerings as a global reinsurance solutions provider.”
