Weekly clinics offer fathers free parenting tips

New fathers can get free parenting tips at a weekly clinic starting next month.

The fatherhood course will enable dads of children up to the age of 5 to meet other fathers to discuss issues such as active parenting, stress management and how to develop a support team

Terrylynn Tyrell, co-ordinator of the child development programme, said: “This series is for fathers, by fathers, so we have partnered with some truly phenomenal fathers in the community to highlight their essential role in the development of young children.

“They will share personal experiences from their fatherhood journey, address stereotypes of fatherhood and discuss the changing norms of fatherhood.

“This is a valuable opportunity for fathers to connect with other fathers and strengthen their parenting toolkit.”

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, gave the programme his backing.

He said: “The child development programme is a resource for Bermuda, and this five-week series for fathers is a cause that is very near to my heart.

“It is crucial for our fathers and men to feel supported. Our children need to know that their fathers and mothers are jointly invested in caring for them the best they can.”

The course will run every Tuesday during November starting at 5.30pm. The venue for the sessions will be given only to those who register.

To register, e-mail tsdurham@gov.bm or call 478-3333.
