Futurist heads week of tech awards and learning
Bermuda Tech Week positions the island as a key player in the tech revolution, a leading member of the island’s entrepreneurial community has said.
Presented by the Bermuda Business Development Agency and government’s Economic Development Department, Tech Week opens today.
It incorporates the Bermuda Tech Summit, which runs from Wednesday through Friday, as well as events presented by the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, the EDD, and the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.
Erica Smith, executive director of the BEDC, said: “Tech Week is an important event in Bermuda’s calendar because it highlights the key role that technology plays in all our lives, whether personally or professionally, but it also provides an opportunity to promote locally and internationally that Bermuda is an innovative and cutting edge jurisdiction, that actively fosters a growing tech ecosystem, fuelled by ambitious entrepreneurs and an enabling regulatory environment for that growth.”
She added: “The world today is much different from 20 years ago and will be much different 20 years from now, and that change has been fuelled by the advancements in development and use of technology. It is exciting to forecast how technology will change the world in the future.
“Tech Week provides the environment for entrepreneurs, policymakers, educators, and consumers to come together and engage around the future of technology, while positioning Bermuda as a key player.”
Tuesday, two private round table events – Blue Economy and Healthcare – will precede the Bermuda Innovation and Technology Association launch reception.
On Thursday, the Chamber presents the much-anticipated 90-minute Zoom address by futurist, artificial intelligence and future of work expert Sinead Bovell, revealing how technology will affect the future of industry.
A BEDC event will advise on how entrepreneurs can leverage Web3 to “up their game” and delegates will hear from US-based Bermudian Web3 adviser and consultant Stephanie Smellie.
A discussion includes Bermudian Karee Luna, founder and creative director of Hai Tyde's What The NFT?
Ms Smith said the focus of the seminar “is to acclimate Bermuda’s entrepreneurs, business owners, and start ups with Web 3”.
She added: “The first step is to help to define it and then to help them understand how to leverage it to be more successful entrepreneurs. Our main goal with the seminar is to demystify it.”
The annual Technology Innovation Awards will take place at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club.
The awards provide the EDD with the opportunity to celebrate innovative and solutions-driven Bermudian-based companies, organisations, and individuals who are doing outstanding things in the technology field.
