Flu Express gets under way

Drivers turned out yesterday for the start of the health department’s annual Flu Express programme.

Nurses administered shots at Sandys Secondary Middle School to people in priority groups, such as healthcare workers, caregivers and those aged 65 and older.

The Flu Express will also run from 10am to 2pm at CedarBridge Academy on Saturday and at Penno’s Wharf on November 2.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said this week: “In some people, the flu infection can be quite serious and may increase their risk of developing complications, such as pneumonia.

“While the coronavirus and the flu symptoms are similar, the flu vaccine and the Covid-19 vaccination are different.

“The flu and Covid-19 vaccines are designed to protect against the specific viruses that cause their respective illnesses.

“As we gear up for flu season, and with the coronavirus still in our community, I strongly suggest people get both for the best protection.”
