Gary Harris rejoins Appleby Bermuda’s reinsurance team
After a three-year hiatus, Gary Harris will be back at Appleby Bermuda on Monday as an insurance partner.
Mr Harris joins Appleby from Fortitude Re, where he was head of legal and compliance in Bermuda. Before that he worked for Appleby for six years.
His practice includes sales and acquisitions of reinsurance companies and portfolios of reinsurance business, including legacy and run-off transactions. He has worked on a wide range of multi-jurisdictional and multi-line transactions.
He also advised corporate and institutional clients on the establishment of, or participation in, a variety of reinsurance and investment products, public and private mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, and private placings, note issuances, and complex syndicated loan arrangements.
Before moving in-house, Mr Harris was recognised by The Legal 500 as a “Next Generation Partner” in the Insurance/reinsurance category and was recommended in the banking, finance, and capital markets category. In 2017, he was also recognised by the Bermuda Re+ILS magazine as a rising star.
“Appleby has always had a stellar insurance team, which has only grown in the breadth and depth of its offering since I was previously with the firm,” Mr Harris said.
He said the expanded knowledge he gained working for Fortitude Re would add value to the Appleby team.
“Gary brings a wealth of experience having worked on both the law firm and client side and not only understands the complexities of the reinsurance sector, but has the expertise and enthusiasm to go beyond the expected and consistently find solutions for clients,” managing partner Brad Adderley, said.
“Gary’s commerciality further enhances our already very strong corporate practice. We have an awesome team and I am thrilled to have Gary back where his career in Bermuda began.”
