Bailey’s Bay made club history after achieving perfection in their Bermuda International Pool League contest against Prison Officers Stunners.

The team of Bobby Smith, Dennis Parsons, Jelani Hollis, Clevon Hill and Richard Foggo were a model of consistency on their way to recording a perfect score at their Sea Breeze Oval clubhouse last month.

“I don’t think we as a team have ever gone into games thinking about posting a perfect score,” former Devonshire Colts striker Hill told The Royal Gazette. “But on that night we got off to a good start, winning the first five games.

“It was not until around the tenth game that I said to my captain [Hollis] jokingly that it looks like we are scoring in 10s tonight, so let's get it up, but still out of respect for our opponents a perfect score was never discussed or talked about among the players as the night went along.”

Bay’s players began to sense they were onto something truly special around the eighteenth game.

“You could feel in our team and see the look in the player’s eyes that we were on to something special,” Hill added. “Each of us begun driving off each other's energy and wins as it went along.”

The pressure of posting a perfect score gradually ramped up as the team neared the remarkable feat.

“No one wanted to be the player to mess up what would turn out to be a history-making night for Bailey’s Bay’s pool team,” Hill said.

Bay, who have yet to be beaten this season, have been competing in the league for nearly a decade with an experienced crop of players.

“Bailey’s Bay has been around for about seven seasons but the nucleus of the team have been playing for over 20-something years,” added Hill.

Moving forward, the Bay player has urged his fellow team-mates to stay focused on their goals and not get carried away by their exploits.

“All in all there are a lot of good teams in the league, so we must put what we did in the back of our heads and focus on our next game,” he said.

Hill believes his team’s achievement bodes well for the entire league.

“As it’s a great achievement for us, it’s just as great for the league as a whole because what we want to do is draw awareness to the league for any outsider looking in,” he added. “This only bodes well for the Bermuda Pool League moving forward.

“There are fourteen different pool teams who play in various workman's and member’s clubs around the island every Thursday from September to April, so feel free to come out and support.”
