North Village keen to get back to winning ways
North Village will attempt to get back to winning ways at the earliest opportunity when they lock horns with champions Dandy Town in one of two intriguing Premier Division match-ups this weekend.
Kenny Thompson’s team were edged 3-2 by holders Devonshire Cougars in the Dudley Eve Trophy semi-finals in midweek.
It was Village’s first defeat of the season and first time conceding in five outings.
They will now rest their flawless league record on the line but certainly have their work cut out against a Town outfit steadily gaining momentum at Goose Gosling Field tomorrow (3pm).
Thompson will be forced to make at least one change to his starting line-up as captain Tahmi Williams was sent off in the recent loss to Cougars.
Like their rivals, Town will also be keen to maintain their unblemished record and build on a 1-0 win over Cougars in their previous league outing on October 19.
Tomorrow’s other intriguing match-up in the top flight sees unbeaten leaders St George’s Colts face Cougars at Devonshire Recreation Club (6pm).
Somerset Trojans host Hamilton Parish at Somerset Cricket Club tonight (9pm) in what will be the second meeting between the two sides in four days.
The home side hold a psychological edge, having edged their rivals 1-0 in the remaining Dudley Eve Trophy semi-final at PHC Field on Wednesday night.
PHC will host X-Roads in the remaining top-flight fixture at PHC Field (3pm).
Meanwhile, First Division also continues this weekend with Ireland Rangers doing battle with Paget (6.30pm) today at Somerset Cricket Club, and Somerset Eagles pitted against fellow cellar dwellers St David’s at White Hill Field tomorrow (3pm).
Leaders Young Men’s Social Club will lock horns with second-placed Wolves in this weekend’s top match-up in the second tier at Wellington Oval (12.30pm).
Both teams are unbeaten, along with Southampton Rangers and Paget, who thumped bottom side Eagles 7-0 in their previous outing to secure a first win under new player-coach Antwan Russell.
Third-place Southampton are away to lowly Devonshire Colts at Police Field (12.30pm).
