A man admitted stealing goods worth more than $2,000 from a former housemate.

Jamel Richardson, 31, from Devonshire, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

Alan Richards, for the Crown, told the court that the complainant, Cornell Young, left his home on Orchard Grove, Pembroke, on September 14.

When he returned he noticed that several items had been stolen including two tablets, eight watches and an 18-carat gold piece of jewellery.

Mr Young then viewed his home security footage and noticed Richardson breaking into his home at about 7pm that evening and sticking his middle finger at the camera.

He formally identified Richardson to police on September 29 and said that they had lived together for a short time.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that court services conduct a social inquiry report, a mental health assessment and a drug use assessment for Richardson.

Ms Anderson adjourned the case to December 14 for sentencing and released Richardson on $2,500 bail until that time.
