Gosling’s gold turns into cash for athletes bursary fund
More than $30,000 has been raised towards a bursary fund for athletes, Gosling’s has announced.
To celebrate Bermuda’s first Olympic gold medal-winner, Gosling’s launched its Flora Duffy Gold rum last October.
Since the rum’s launch, Gosling’s has donated $5 to the Flora Gold Fund for every bottle sold.
The Flora Gold fundhelps aspiring Bermudian athletes achieve their goals. The endowment fund helps pay for athletes’ training and travel fees, equipment and coaching.
Malcolm Gosling Jr, the vice-president of Gosling’s Export (Bermuda) Limited, said: “We are thrilled to surpass $30,000 in contributions to the Flora Gold Fund.”
This weekend, Dame Flora will compete in the World Triathlon Championship Series, hoping to win a record-breaking fourth world title.
Mr Gosling said: “In celebration of Flora’s return to Bermuda we are excited to offer a special price of $49 for the month of November. Gosling’s Limited will still maintain a donation of $5 to the fund for every bottle sold.”
Dame Flora will be meeting guests and signing bottles at Gosling’s Front Street store today from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
A Gosling’s Flora Gold rum cocktail competition has also been launched with the firm inviting bars and restaurants throughout the island to create their best tasting cocktail using Gosling’s Flora Gold rum.
The winning bartender will receive a $1,000 donation in their name to the Flora Gold Fund.
People can vote for their favourite cocktail on the Gosling’s Limited website. A list of participating bars and bartenders can be found here.
