Bermuda company boots out popular London eatery
A London landmark restaurant is being evicted and the landlord is a Bermuda-registered company.
This week London hospitality websites such as The Londonist, Big Hospitality and City AM were full of the news that Simpson’s Tavern, a restaurant built in 1757, has closed.
Landlords, Bermudian-based Tavor Holdings, locked the doors on Simpson’s Tavern, due to rent arrears accumulated during the pandemic.
The eatery was known for its affordable wine list.
Simpson’s manager, Benjamin Duggan, told website City AM they were in the black, and had been seeing higher volume and revenues in October 2022 than they had before the pandemic.
Mr Duggan told the London press that the landlords refused to engage, and that he felt shell-shocked.
Tavor’s registered address is Canons Court, 22 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
