A programme to encourage Bermudian students to take advantage of educational opportunities in the US has been launched by the island’s US Consulate.

Through the initiative, called the Study with “US” campaign, Bermudian university and college students are able to share their experiences of studying in the US. Bermudian alumni of US institutions can also share their experiences.

According to a Consulate spokeswoman, the scheme aims to highlight the longstanding educational exchange bonds between Bermuda and the US. It will also showcase feasible educational pathways in the US for young Bermudians.

The campaign has launched its first video which features Bermudian Commonwealth Games athlete Emma Harvey discussing her time at Penn State University in Pennsylvania, where she is one of six captains on the swim team.

Ms Harvey said: “When you walk around campus, everyone is wearing Penn State gear and everyone, you can tell, is so happy to be there and I think that the overall sense of community is unmatched.”

US Consul-General Karen Grissette said: “With more than 4,500 accredited institutions of higher learning, the US has a college or university right for every student.

“There is a range of affordable study options and scholarships that can be sourced in Bermuda or directly through US institutions.

“For example, Columbia College in New York City will provide a full scholarship for a Bermudian student who is accepted and has demonstrated financial need.

“Troy University in Alabama, is eager to recruit students from Bermuda and can provide scholarships to support their educational goals.”
