Daniel Phillips approaches career-high ranking after Guatemala final appearance
Bermuda’s brightest young tennis talent ended a fantastic fortnight with victory in the J4 doubles event in Guatemala.
Daniel Phillips and his partner Humza Noor of the United States beat Samuel Heredia and Cesar Mahecha of Colombia 6-2, 6-4 in the doubles final to win the tournament without dropping a set in their four matches.
Heredia, though, was to get his revenge over Phillips in the singles final, winning 6-4, 6-2 to prevent the Bermudian from following up a win in Boca Raton with another in Central America.
Phillips will now return to his base in Delray Beach, Florida, with the hope of ending the year with a new career-high ranking. Ranked 370 in ITF Juniors after his Boca Raton victory, he will now be approaching his highest mark of 327, which he achieved in March this year
