Dame Flora honoured at Buckingham Palace

The island’s first Olympic gold champion and a record-breaking sportswoman was officially honoured by the Princess Royal yesterday.

Dame Flora Duffy was recognised for her services to sport.

She was appointed a Dame in the New Year’s Honours list 11 months ago and joined others at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

The 35-year-old, who clinched a record-breaking fourth women’s world triathlon title last week, wrote on Twitter: “It’s been quite the last six days.

“Winning my fourth @worldtriathlon world title and then on to Buckingham Palace to receive my DBE.

“Thankful and grateful.”

A post by an official account of the Royal Family said: “Dame Flora Duffy received her damehood for services to sport.

“The Bermudian triathlete won gold at the Tokyo Olympics.”
