Eilidh Franklin and Noah Browne big winners at squash championships
Eilidh Franklin and Noah Browne were the top dogs on finals night at the Bermuda Squash and Rackets Championship.
Franklin and Browne won the women’s and men’s opens respectively on Friday with Franklin running out an easy winner over Joann Bielby in the final and Browne overcoming Anaya Smith, who will be travelling during the week as part of a strong Bermuda contingent in the Canada Junior open.
There was at least some compensation for Bielby as she beat Sam Spencer in three competitive sets to win the ladies open.
Owen Rosorea, another member of the team off to Canada, won both the under-17 boys division and the Men’s C category, with Andrew Cox coming out on top in the Men’s B division.
Anthony White beat Jan Brewer in an epic five-set match to win the Men’s Over-50 category with the retirement of Ken Randall, who was a set up in the Men’s Over-60 final, handing the title to Colin Alexander. Anthony Fellowes overcame James Hubbard to win among the over 40s.
There was a thrilling finale to the Ladies Over-50 competition with the lead changing on several occasions before Liz Martin prevailed over Denise Kyme 11-6 in the final set. Kyme was presumably seeing Martin in her nightmares on Friday night after she lost to her again in the final of the Over-60s competition.
Mason Smith beat Ben Sherratt to win the Boys Under-13 competition with Leilani Carpol beating McKenna Kyme in a fantastic five-set match to win the same age group for the girls. Taylor Kyme won the under-11 age group for girls.
