Police have issued a warning against sharing inappropriate altered images, including those of minors, which are circulating on social media.

A report was made to police about images showing cropped head shot of individuals pasted on to other images of bodies that are in various stages of undress.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “We urge that should you receive these images you immediately delete them from your device and do not forward them on, as sharing them is an offence under the Criminal Code Amendments (Non-consensual sharing of intimate images) Act 2021.”

The Act states: “A person who distributes an intimate image of another person, without the other person’s consent, and in a way that would cause the other person distress reasonably arising in all the circumstances, commits an offence.

“A person convicted of an offence is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding three years; on conviction on indictment to a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years.”

The spokesman added: “Just think, how would you feel if it were a relative, a loved one or close friend of yours depicted in that manner?”
