Artist raises $8,000 for cancer charity by selling prints

An initiative to raise money for a cancer charity which began two years ago has raised $8,000.

The scheme, called the Bermuda Cancer Aid, was created in November 2020 by artist Jon Legere and consultant Holly Mazar-Fox, to raise money for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

Around 100 art prints, all created by Mr Legere, have been sold with all the proceeds going towards the charity.

Ms Mazar-Fox said: “It was a no-brainer for Jon and I to support the Centre. With Covid lock downs and restrictions, we knew we had to do something to ensure that cancer patients could receive their much needed care.

“Now that we have transitioned out of such strict protocols, the community still sees the benefits of sponsoring cancer patients. It has been wonderful to see everyone rally around such an important cause.”

The charity’s chief marketing officer Deborah Narraway said that the funds raised could help an uninsured patient receive radiation treatment or fund the Centre’s SunSmart Programme, which teaches young people about practising sun-safe behaviours to reduce their chances of getting skin cancer.

Ms Narraway said: “We are grateful to Jon and Holly for supporting us in this unique and impactful way.

“The artwork is bold yet tropical and provides a visual reminder of each purchaser’s gift to the Centre.”

Mr Legere and Ms Mazar-Fox will present an $8,000 cheque to the Centre later this week.

There are still around 50 prints for sale. People who are interested in purchasing one can visit www.mazarfox.com.
