Tiny the Treefrog will teach the importance of recycling in his Christmas book.

Elizabeth Mulderig said that her newest book, Tiny Goes Green , aims to be Bermuda’s first eco-friendly storybook for children.

She explained that not only did the story teach children about recycling, but the book itself was made from environmentally friendly materials.

Ms Mulderig said: “The book is produced using recycled paper and there is no plastic coating on the pages, so the illustrations have a more earthy and less glossy look.”

In his latest story, Tiny learns to use plastic waste, such as bottles and drinking straws, that he collects around Bermuda.

He eventually creates a treehouse out of colourful plastics.

Ms Mulderig said that the story was “fun with humorous illustrations” but ultimately had a serious message.

She added: “Since the holiday season is about thoughtfulness and giving, I felt it would be a good time for Tiny to give the idea of empowerment over one’s environment.

“Even if kids take a walk on the beach once a week and pick up some of the plastic, which now outweighs the seashells, they can improve the environment. After all, the future of the island belongs to them.”
