The community has been challenged to “Brave the Shave” in aid of childhood cancer research charity the St Baldrick’s Foundation.

The annual St Baldrick’s Bermuda is due to take place on March 17 at Docksider Pub and Restaurant from 6pm.

Bermuda fundraisers have raised $7,432,473 over 22 years towards the St Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants.

The charity’s mission is to “conquer kids’ cancer” by supporting promising research to find cures and better treatments for all childhood cancers.

Cheyra Bell, event organiser, said: “The Bermuda St Baldrick's committee is looking forward to hosting the 22nd annual event on March 17, 2023.

“We would like to encourage any interested person to show support by donating towards this amazing cause of standing in solidarity and fighting for childhood cancer.

“If you would like to register as a ‘shavee’ and ‘Brave the Shave’ it would be an honour to work with you throughout the process.”

In return for Bermuda supporting the work of the St Baldrick’s Foundation, the charity provides a grant equalling 10 per cent of funds raised from local events to help fund the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s SunSmart Programme.

SunSmart offers free education to schools and summer camps about staying safe in the sun.

While most participants shave their heads to raise funds, some opt to chop off their ponytails without going fully bald.

All are encouraged to make donations and support the participants.
