Event helps teach seniors about dangers of online scams
Senior citizens learnt about protecting themselves from online scams at a data privacy tea party this week.
The event was held at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner on Church Street and attendees were joined by Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, who warned seniors about internet scammers.
She said: “With the rise of technology use, online scams seek to exploit seniors financially.
“We wish to remind those who feel suspicious about scams or have been a victim of a financial scam to contact the Bermuda Police Service and your bank at the earliest opportunity.”
The minister also highlighted the Government’s commitment to the island’s ageing population.
She added: “As the world is rapidly changing, technology continues to advance and I know first-hand how many seniors feel overwhelmed and a bit intimidated at times.”
“To all of our seniors, we wish you the very best as you develop your privacy defence.”
