A 21-year-old man who allegedly drove off to test ride a new scooter and never returned has been arrested.

Scooter Mart called police at 11.40am on Friday over the alleged theft from its Paget location after a customer asked to test drive the vehicle and did not return.

A police spokesman said their efforts to identify the rider were unsuccessful.

The new motorcycle was found in Hamilton by a member of the public, who contacted police.

Officers recovered the vehicle intact and the man was later arrested, with inquiries ongoing.

Any witnesses or people with information are asked to call 211 as soon as possible.
