Cecoy Robinson believes his Bermuda Under-17 football squad are raring to get their Concacaf Championships campaign under way after beating Little Haiti 2-1 in their final warm-up match.

Goals from Hayden Dill and Jannis Roberts secured the confidence-boosting win in Florida, in advance of the knockout stages in Guatemala, where just two victories will guarantee them a place in the 2023 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Peru in November.

While pleased with the result, Robinson acknowledged that valuable lessons were learned from the encounter.

“Last night was good for us as far as the opponent was concerned,” he said. “It was a good physical battle, they asked some questions of us in both halves that we will need to make some adjustments with.

“Match day is coming up quickly. The spirit around the boys is high, they are all very motivated and up for it, so now it is all about transferring that to a result.”

Having had one final chance to cast his eye over the squad, Robinson, who has no injury concerns to contend with, admitted he is facing some difficult decision regarding his final team selection.

“Thankfully we have no injury concerns following the match which is obviously good,” he added.

“However, as always, it’s going to be a headache when it comes to team selection for the opening game. Everyone here is working hard and putting their best foot forward to be a part of the game.”

Bermuda will face Honduras in their match on Sunday with the Central American country unbeaten in their group after beating Surinam 6-1, El Salvador 4-1 and Haiti 1-0, and Robinson has prepared to face them.

“We have seen all of the games they have played and have looked at the way they like to do things, which allows us to know how we can cause them problems,” he said.

Victory in the round of 16 would see Bermuda advance through to the quarter-finals, which are scheduled to take place on Tuesdays and Wednesday.

Should the squad progress to the semi-finals, they will make history, becoming the first Bermudian football team of any age group to qualify for a World Cup.
