Bermuda discover opponents for U20 Women’s World Cup qualification
Bermuda will face Jamaica, Honduras, Anguilla and French Guiana in group E as they begin the first stage of qualification for next year’s Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
The draw which took place in Miami on Thursday, saw a total of 32 teams split into six groups, with two groups consisting of six teams and four groups with five teams each.
Each team within the group will play each other once in round robin play, with winner of each group advancing to the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic, which will take place from May 24 to June 3.
The Championship will feature the region’s new format for women’s youth competitions, beginning with an eight-team group stage played between Concacaf’s top eight teams, consisting of the top two ranked nations, United States and Mexico, and the six qualifying stage winners.
After round robin play, the two four teams, two from each group will advance to the competition’s knockout stage, consisting of the semi-finals, third-place play-off and final, with the top three finishers qualifying for next year’s Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
The official draw for the group stage of the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship will take place at the Concacaf headquarters in Miami on May 2.
