Bristol City striker Nahki Wells is adamant there is no pressure on his team heading into their FA Cup fifth round clash at home to Premier League side Manchester City on Tuesday.

As the underdogs, the Bermuda captain says his team has nothing to lose in the David versus Goliath cup tie.

“There is big expectation on Manchester City and no expectation on us,” Wells told The Royal Gazette. “We see it as just a free hit and a great opportunity to showcase ourselves against the world’s best, especially the best within the country.”

Despite being the underdogs, the 32-year-old says he and his fellow team-mates are keen to keep their cup run alive.

“We are just looking to try to give a good account of ourselves and be on the front foot and try our best to win the game,” Wells added.

“We know it won’t be easy, we know the chances of us being overturned are quite high, but we are going into that fixture hungry and ready to try our absolute best.”

Bristol City are unbeaten in their last 12 matches with Wells coming off the bench to grab the winner from the penalty spot.in a 1-0 home victory over Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship at the weekend.

“It was a great win for us to take that unbeaten run to 12 games,” Wells said.

“Things are going well for us building into Tuesday and what is going to be obviously our toughest test this season with the visitors in Manchester City coming. There is a lot of positivity around the club at the moment and long may that continue.”

While Wells is pleased to have made a huge impact in City’s previous two league matches, Wells admits being left out of Nigel Pearson’s starting line-up for the past three games has been a bitter pill to swallow.

“I have been disappointed I have come out of the team. I had expected with the big fixture load to maybe come out for a fixture or two because I had a little bit of a dip in form,” he said.

“Even though we were getting results, I just think that I was not performing at my best, so I wasn’t surprised to see myself come out of the side for a game or two and for it to be three games was frustrating.

“But looking back, it’s been a relatively good bit of a rest for myself and to still come on and score two goals and have a big impact in helping us get four points in the last two fixtures is always good.”

Despite his seslection problems at the moment, Wells is confident he will play some part against Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I do expect myself to play,” he said. “The team has not been named but I am confident as we have a few players that are cup-tied, which probably raises my chances of playing.

“I am just looking forward to being a part of that fixture and seeing where it takes us. It would be great to go three and three and just try to keep the run going for as long as possible.”
