A solution to avoid stuff hitting the fan

Our letter writer proposes that new trash trucks can be affixed with side rails so that collectors are not in harm’s way should anything come loose (File photograph)

Dear Sir,

For about the third time, the public have heard or read about Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, complaining bitterly about members of the public putting faeces in their garbage.

Even though I and others support his protests, human nature being what it is, there are those who will no doubt continue to violate his claim because of the convenience.

My suggestion is for the future refuse trucks to have installed at the rear of the sides a 10in square Plexiglas so that the collectors can stand at the sides where the controls are and not be put in danger of anything that is compressed flying out at them.
