Scott Roy continued his sensational start to the 2023 Moongate Tour championship after securing a second win of the season at Port Royal Golf Course on Friday.

The Turtle Hill Golf Club director of golf carded a seven-over 78, which left him one shot clear of nearest rivals and fellow professionals Chris Smith and Dwayne Pearman, who finished tied for second.

“Win number two feels good,” Roy said. “I feel like my game is coming together, I am working hard mentally and emotionally and it’s nice to get one in. It feels good and comfortable.

“I have been in this position before and it’s good to be back.”

The 42-year-old capitalised on student and caddie Adam Perry’s knowledge of the par-71 Southampton layout.

“Adam knows the golf course and we just had fun today,” Roy added.

“Having him come and caddie for me this time versus me caddying for him, and it was very relaxing.

“There was a couple of moments where it could have gotten away and he distracted me from the distractions, so I think that was a key part.”

Roy coped best in the challenging blustery conditions.

“We have done this event three times this year and each time it’s been with it’s weather challenges and today was no different,” he said.

“It was certainly more blustery than sustained, so I think it caught a lot of people off guard. I think it made, especially on the back nine, putting challenging this late in the day.

“You certainly had to be patient and take a lot of different elements into account than you normally would.”

Roy’s other victory arrived at January’s Tour season opener when he finished tied for first with amateur Jevon Roberts.

Amateur pair Gordon Cox and Roger Brangman finished tied for fourth at nine over to round off the top five at Port Royal yesterday.
