Winning the last piece of silverware in the season will not change Tre Ming’s decision to retire.

In the build-up to the season finale at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Sunday, Ming spoke of his intention to hang up his boots come the final whistle and his decision to quit has not been changed after helping North Village clinch FA Cup success against former side PHC.

Amid the wild celebrations after helping Village to thwart PHC’s Triple Crown aspirations in a 2-1 victory, the 28-year-old reiterated his desire to call time on his career.

“I’m definitely still retiring. This is it for me, I’m done,” said Ming within minutes of earning his second FA Cup winner’s medal. His first came as a member of PHC, with whom he spent the majority of his playing career before joining Village this season.

“This is the perfect way to go out and I have to thank the North Village community because they made me feel at home right away after switching from PHC,” Ming said.

“Even though I’ve won this competition before in the past, this one feels really sweet but there is was no way I wanted to end on a bad note. Credit goes to PHC for putting up a good fight but I knew we were going to win the from the start; we just had to battle it out.

“It’s a bittersweet feeling for me in regards to beating PHC in the final, but it feels good to stop them winning the Triple Crown and stop that whole narrative, it’s the last game of the season, so I’ll keep those bragging rights for a while.”

Ming has been blighted by knee issues in recent seasons and concedes that injuries have finally taken their toll on his body, with the midfielder not wishing to let himself and his club down.

“The knee injuries have just been piling up over the years and I’ve had countless surgeries on both knees so it has just taken too much of a toll on my body,” added Ming, who played the entire FA Cup final at the centre of Village’s midfield.

“I always said that if I can’t be at 100 per cent, I didn’t want to give a club anything less than 80 per cent and right now I feel at about 60. I’m actually doing a discredit to the club and the rest of the squad.”

Turning his attention to life after playing, Ming, who earned 21 caps for the national team, is determined to remain in the game and pass on his knowledge and experience to the next generation.

“I will definitely stay involved in football and would love to get into coaching the younger players,” he said.

“I’m not sure where that will be just yet, but I’m just looking to give back in any way that I can.”
