Charity plans series of events for Autism Awareness Month
A charity helping autistic children and their families is to hold several events and fundraisers throughout April for Autism Awareness Month.
The first will be a free screening of the film In A Different Key today.
A spokeswoman for Tomorrow’s Voices said: “The movie is a must-see for every health professional, teacher, support aid, parent and community member and will be shown at the Bermuda College Athene Lecture Theatre from 6pm.”
There will be a reception before the screening, beginning at 5.15pm.
The charity will also host a workshop discussing natural environment teaching, called “We Can’t Have All Work and No Play”, on April 19.
By using toys and games, natural environment teaching helps people learn new skills within a familiar setting.
The organisation will also host its annual Autism Rocks Socks fundraiser on April 21.
During this event, people sport colourful socks to raise autism awareness and donate either $2 or $5 to Tomorrow’s Voices.
The charity is partnering with sports website OnTrack Bermuda to sell socks, which can be bought via the Sargasso app or at ontrackbda.com.
OnTrack will donate part of the funds raised from the socks sale to Tomorrow’s Voices.
The spokeswoman added: “This is a fun way to support the charity and do something while also having fun.”
Participants can post photos of their socks on social media with the tag #autismrockssocks or #tomorrowsvoices.
The organisation also has a new pop-up shop, located at the former TN Tatem Middle School in Warwick.
The store, Fabulous Finds, sells everything from clothing to household items.
It is open from 1pm to 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and from noon to 3pm on the weekends and will run until the end of April.
