New stables for SPCA approved
The SPCA has been granted planning approval to erect new stables at its Valley Road, Paget headquarters to house farm animals.
The proposal, which was received by the Planning Department on November 13 and approved by the Development Application Committee on December 20, includes three new stables, two bathrooms, a tack room and laundry facilities.
According to the application, the stables would be used to temporarily house horses, cows, goats or pigs while a suitable permanent home is located for the animals.
Planning inspectors recommended the application receive approval, stating that the proposal was fully compliant with planning regulations and would be a worthwhile addition to the facilities.
“The use augments the existing animal care-related services provided on the property, which has been long-standing, and are not detrimental to the surrounding neighbourhood by virtue of the size of the property and mature vegetation that provides a buffer, essentially isolating the commercial use form the surrounding residential properties,” the report writer stated.
The report also noted that the existing parking on the property is sufficient for the expansion, and the massing of the project was in keeping with the surrounding area.
