Hill brothers wreak havoc as Village, Parish march on

Former Cup Match stars Ricky Hill and his brother Corey snapped up 13 wickets between them as North Village and Hamilton Parish continued to set the pace in the Commercial Cricket League.

Ricky's six for 32 from nine overs guided leaders Village to a seven-wicket win over BC Allrounders while Corey's seven for 62 from 13.5 overs helped Hamilton Parish inflict St. David's first defeat of the season.

Elsewhere, Presley Millwood and Chris Daley both notched up unbeaten half-centuries as Jamaican Association crushed Western Stars by nine wickets while West Indian Association had the better of a Royal Naval Field run spree against Fine Legs Byes that ended in a draw, despite slow bowler Courtney Weekes' six for 50 in 10 overs.

Derek Smith topscored with 20 for BC Allrounders but the newcomers had no answer to Ricky Hill's medium pacers and Graham Smith's two for none from 1.1 overs, struggling to 88 in 33.1 overs at Shelly Bay.

Village coasted to victory in 23.1 overs, Ernest McCallan leading the way with an unbeaten 46 as Village took their points tally to 35, three clear of Parish. Jason Bailey took two for 18 off six for the losers.

BC Allrounders' coach Andre Smith was far from despondent after his team's third successive defeat.

"We're very pleased to be involved with the league. We're building every game, our stats are looking better and we always have 16 or 17 guys show up to play."

Corey Hill shared the new ball with Chris Caisey, who claimed three for 54 from 14 overs, and the pair bowled unchanged at Garrison Field to dismiss St. David's for 116 in 27.5 overs.

Big-hitting Aaron Crockwell (nine) failed with the bat for the first time this season and only Kameron Fox (43) and Jahson Smith (25) offered any resistance to the rampant Hill and Caisey.

Parish lost six wickets in reaching their target in the 25th over, Irving Burgess stroking 47 and Clarkie Darrell 25 before Hill finished the job with a flourish, striking a six and a four in his 11 not out.

Angelo Cannonier (three for 40) was the pick of the St. David's attack.

Although opener Donovan Livingston fell to Leroy Wilson for one, Millwood and Daley shared a sparkling unbroken second-wicket stand of 119 to steer Jamaican Association to victory in the 35th over after Western Stars collapsed to 119 all out at St. John's Field after Milford Waldron made 36 and Brian Hall 31.

Opener Millwood's unbeaten 56 included seven fours while Daley struck two sixes and three fours in 51 not out.

Norman Godwin was JA's most successful bowler with four for 29 from nine overs while Tony Parks took two for 19 from seven and skipper Ian Coke two for 22 from 11.2 as Stars' last seven wickets tumbled for 25 runs.

"They had to work hard for their victory but we just didn't put up enough runs to defend after reaching 93 for three and then collapsing," said Stars' skipper Chris Smith.

JA manager Glenmore Barrett was delighted with his team's first win of the season.

"We're starting to gel now — we're getting it together," he said.

WIA took seven points to FLB's three in the shoot-out at the West End that produced 495 runs, highlighted by Jamaican Mervyn Kitchen's explosive knock of 96 for FLB.

Kitchen blasted six sixes and seven fours and wicketkeeper Kelly Simmons made 22 but the loss of three quick wickets as Weekes made inroads forced FLB to settle for a draw, closing at 234 for eight in reply to WIA's 261 for five.

Barry Richards and Dave Greenidge (18) gave WIA a solid start with an opening stand of 60, Richards belting four sixes and four fours before he was run out for 50 by a direct throw from Jeff DeSilva.

Richards Foulds hit an unbeaten 64 at number three, his second successive half-century, before Anthony Brathwaite (42) and Chris Clarke (38) accelerated the run rate in the closing overs.
