Sherri J leaves Magic 102.7

Stepping down: Sherri J

The host of a popular island talk radio show announced she would stand down yesterday.

Sherri Simmons, the host of the Sherri Simmons Show on Magic 102.7, said that her last day on-air would be December 20. Mrs Simmons, also known as Sherri J, is married to Jamahl Simmons, the Minister Without Portfolio.

David Burt, the Premier, announced in March that Mrs Simmons had been a political consultant to Kathy Lynn Simmons, the Minister of Legal Affairs, since October 2018.

The news came in response to parliamentary questions for Michael Dunkley, a One Bermuda Alliance backbencher.

Mr Burt told MPs that Mrs Simmons and other consultants were on the PS36 pay grade, which was $116,317 a year at the time. He said: “There is no one higher than PS36 for ministerial consultants that are advising ministers in a personal capacity.”

Information later supplied by a government spokeswoman showed that Mrs Simmons was paid $57.48 an hour as a part-time employee.

Neither Mrs Simmons nor Glenn Blakeney, the chief executive of Inter-Island Communications, could be contacted for comment.
