Sponsors come forward with added prize money

The purse for the 2012-13 Best of Three Series Stakes has been increased thanks to the support of cosponsors Keen Limited and Correia Construction

Keen Limited and Correia Construction are helping to boost local harness racing with added prize money.The two companies have agreed to sponsor the Driving Horse and Pony Club’s (DHPC) 2012-13 Best-of-Three Series Stakes to be held at the Vesey Street racetrack.The series will feature six heats with the top four in the points standings going forward to a seventh and eighth heat championship race.Points will be awarded in each heat one point for first, two for second, three for third and four for fourth. Non-starters will receive six points.The winner of the series will be the pony with the least amount of points after the final two heats.Keen Limited and Correia Construction are giving an undisclosed sum of money which will be added to the total purse for each race series they sponsor.The entry fee of $75 will complete the purse for the four ponies that qualify for the championship race.First place ponies will be paid 45 percent of the purse, second will receive 25 percent, third 20 percent and fourth 10 percent.The draw for post positions will be made on each race day of the best-three-series during the drivers’ meeting.The Best-of-Three Series Stakes will commence with the opening two heats on October 21. The third and fourth heats will be held on November 11, the fifth and sixth heats on December 16 and seventh and eighth heat championship race on January 13.Entry deadline is tomorrow.Earlier this year DHPC launched the Bermuda CableVision Friday Night Series which has proven to be popular among drivers.The series sees the three fastest drivers on average time in each time bar receive cash earnings. First place drivers earn $40 while the second and third place drivers pocket $25 and $15.
