New company aims to help companies get the most out of training
In times of economic uncertainty, it pays to be an employee who can “be all they can be”. And, while that may be an American army slogan, it’s a former Canadian military trainer that hopes to bring that mantra to businesses and their workers in Bermuda.New company Think Business Training Bermuda, headed by trainer and 25-year Canadian military veteran Celeste McLeod, is set to offer training workshops, facilitation and management services to individuals, companies and organisations island-wide.Originally operating in Canada for the past 15 years, Think Business Bermuda, a division of Zobec Services, a local accounting, trust and corporation administration firm, will officially open its doors in January. The company designs and conducts programmes and workshops to help clients with leadership, supervisory, emergency preparedness, sales and customer service, as well as computer and technical training. One, two and three-day courses are on offer and classes will consist of six to ten people keeping their courses intimate and interactive. According to Mrs McLeod, Think Bermuda’s trainers are people who have business and management experience.“Our trainers aren’t just professional trainers, they have real world experience in business,” said Mrs McLeod, who has been nationally recognised for her leadership and management achievements in the Canadian Forces.Whether a company is small or large, is in manufacturing, services, sales, technology Think Business Training Bermuda looks to offer something for everyone. The training firm is also an authorised provider of continuing education units by the International Association of Continuing Education & Training (IACET).One of their popular courses is “Train the Trainer” where Ms McLeod helps coach an employee who has just returned from an overseas training course, to be able to teach others what they have learned abroad.“It’s economical,” she said. “The person who was trained may not have the tools and confidence to train others; we can give them those skills.”Think Business Training Bermuda also offers a five-day intensive programme aimed to help companies develop and implement a social media strategy. The course includes Facebook, Twitter, blogging, Linked-In, Google search, and website squeeze pages.Ms McLeod can also facilitate strategic planning sessions, team building exercises, tall hall meetings, panel moderation, focus groups and lunch and learn sessions as well as event planning.Presentation Skills Survival School is another course the company offers in which people learn the ropes of public speaking.“It’s a two-day course where people can get over the jitters of giving a presentation,” she said. “It’s an important piece of developing yourself as you move up the corporate ladder.”Course offerings also include emergency and succession planning, business continuity plans and risk management.“We’ve seen a lot more areas of management that are part of the auditing process,” she said. “Not just here but everywhere. We’ve seen it with the HWP fire and with hurricanes, it’s not an ‘if’ but a when. When you have a loss of a major individual, it can be hard to replace or recruit. Infrastructure and personnel are all key components to business continuity plans, not just IT.”Mrs McLeod said what sets Think Business Training Bermuda apart from other training firms is that they offer certified continuing education units and conduct 21 “fanatical follow-up” steps that reinforce what the course was about, including emailed videos, articles and advice.“This is a very different training where people can’t just sit through it and do nothing; we give homework and it is very interactive,” she said, adding that their classes will be held in AF Smith’s “inspirational office” located on Church Street in the Continental Building. For more information about the course offerings, visit www.thinktraining.bm or call 295-4785.
