Promising drivers Syah Pedro and Roman Wilkinson will be looking to make a good impression on their debut in the Lindo’s Grand Prix to take centre stage on the streets of Hamilton on Saturday and Sunday.

Pedro is competing in the Cadet class and fellow Somersfield Academy student Wilkinson in the Tag Junior class.

“I am very excited and this is my first Lindo’s street race,” Pedro told The Royal Gazette.

“I am sure it will be an adjustment because I have never raced anywhere else except for Southside.”

Wilkinson is equally as thrilled to be competing in his first street race that is being held on a brand-new circuit around Court Street, Dundonald Street and Princess Street.

“This is my first street race ever and I am very excited because it’s a good experience and I get to race against an international driver [Cadence Presley],” he said.

Both drivers impressed during the recently concluded Bermuda Karting Club National Championship, with Wilkinson claiming the Tag Junior class title and Pedro finishing second in the Cadet class.

The pair are among the pre-race favourites in their divisions and have placed high expectations upon themselves heading into the event.

“I am winning this street race,” Wilkinson declared.

“When I put my mind to something, I go for it. I am mentally prepared to race this race to win.”

Pedro also has his sights set on taking the coveted chequered flag.

“I would like to win and coming second this season has motivated me even more to go for the street race win,” he said.

American Presley is among six international drivers competing across six different race classes in the island’s first street race for six years.

“It’s fantastic for us to be able to include so many international drivers in the event,” Scott Barnes, the Bermuda Karting Club president and newly crowned L206 and Shifter Stock Class national champion, said.

“We’ve never had this many, which is just huge for the event.”

The event will mark the return of street racing to Hamilton for the first time since 2018 when an estimated 1,500 people turned out to witness the spectacle.

Racing begins on both days at 9am.
