Mark Cloutier and his fellow crew aboard Scatteraction dominated the racing fleet on the way to capturing J105 class honours during the 71st Bermuda International Race Week in the Great Sound on Sunday.

The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club entry won all four races contested in perfect conditions to comfortably top the four-boat standings.

“It has actually been too long since I was last able to sail here and the day really reminded me of that,” Cloutier told The Royal Gazette.

“The sailing conditions on the Great Sound were classic Bermuda perfect and the race committee ran a terrific regatta.

“Our boat was well prepared and our crew were fantastic. All that puts a little pressure on the driver, so it felt pretty good to get the boat around the course so well.

“I just want to say thanks to RBYC and my crew for a great day of sailing in one of the best places in the world to race sailboats.”

Cloutier competed alongside fellow crew Adam and Debbie Barboza, Chris Powell, Christian Dunleavy, Walter Smith and George Buckley.

“We had a number of new crew that joined the Scatteraction team and we gelled together well,” Adam Barboza, the team’s tactician, said. “Mark is an excellent driver and it was great that we could perform well as a team.

“Bermuda produced some stunning conditions and the RBYC race committee did an amazing job of getting four perfect race courses in for the J105s.

“A lot of work goes into the organising of these regattas and we are very thankful to all those involved.”

Taking second was the Star Sailing League Bermuda team led by helmsman Joshua Greenslade, who finished five points adrift of the winners.

Third place went to Heath Foggo at the helm of Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club entry, Yabsta.

Meanwhile, also represented in the regatta is the International One Design class.

Royal Thames Yacht Club’s Henry Arnold presently leads the twelve boat IOD fleet by a point over Bermudian helmsman and defending champion Martin Siese after three races.

Siese is tied with four-time regatta champion Peter Wickwire of the Novia Scotia IOD fleet but ahead of the Canadian on countback.

Patrick Cooper, Bill McNiven and Melinda Bessey are the remaining members on the local team that is bidding to retain its title.

Cooper was at the helm when it won the coveted Vrengen Gold Cup last year.
