Bermuda Bananas triumph over Platano Power
Mark James blasted a grand slam and a 3rbi shot while amassing 9rbi to lead Bermuda Bananas to a 22-19 victory in Softball Bermuda A Division action last week.
Bananas scored their final five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Platano Power did not go lightly as they scored four runs in the seventh inning, including a three-run blast by Albert Acevedo, to make it uncomfortable for Bananas.
James was supported by Daniel Andrade (4rbi) and Nikki Palle (3rbi), while Acevedo (4rbi), Lewis Reynoso (4rbi), Manuel Flores (3rbi) and Joelvis Diaz (3rbi) each contributed in the loss.
Western Stars 23 Hardknockz 1
In Women’s Division action, Western Stars Angels made light work of Hardknockz.
Keisha Eve drove in five runs with Nikita Trott assisting with 3rbi.
Hardknockz’s offence was chocked, registering a total of six hits with Latisha Daniels driving in their only run and Keisante Grant going two for three, the only player with multiple hits.
Hakuna Matata Lions 21 Paraquet Flyers 18
In B Division action, Hakuna Matata Lions recorded victories over both their opponents.
Against Paraquet Flyers, they left it late, scoring 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning, including a grand-slam by Stephen Smith to lead 21-15, and Flyers could only plate three runs in response.
Scott Barnes, Brian Hall and Smith all had 4rbi performances for the victors. Steve O’Flynn (7rbi), Aaron Madeiros (4rbi) and Leonardo Silvera (3rbi) led Flyers’ attack.
Hakuna Matata Lions 16 King Beaches 7
In their other game, Hakuna Mata Lions put the brakes on the high-flying King Beaches.
Stephen Smith recorded another grand slam and 8rbi with help from Preston Mallory (2rbi) to lead the charge.
King Beaches were unable to sustain any offence to trouble Lions, scoring no more than two runs in any inning.
John Rolph (2 for 3; 1hr, 2rbi) and Richard Campbell (3 for 3; 1d, 1hr, 1rbi) were standouts in a losing effort.
King Beaches 24 Team Smokey 9
Tory Richard (7rbi), Rebecca Schoeler and Blaine Bernard, each with 4rbi, did most of the damage. Justin Brookes (2hr – 4rbi) and Garic Swainson (2rbi) spearheaded the offence for Team Smokey.
Paraquet Flyers 28 Team Smokey 27
Paraquet Flyers also redeemed themselves by defeating Team Smokey.
Joel Czember blasted a two-run shot in the top of the seventh inning to put Flyers ahead 28-26.
In the bottom of the inning with bases loaded, Team Smokey’s Eugene Dyer doubled to score Jordan Lamb from third base. However, Tahirah Hill tried to score as well from second base and was called out at the plate to end the threat.
Czember (7rbi), Steve O’Flynn (6rbi) and Aaron Maderios (5rbi) led Flyers’ potent attack, while Idrees Sharieff (5rbi), Dean Douglas (4rbi) and Garic Swainson (4rbi) led the line for Team Smokey.
Oddballs 25 Five O’s 11
In D Division action, Oddballs brushed aside Five O’s behind Tyler Bordeleau (3hr – 9rbi), Perry D’Ambrosio (5rbi) and Jeff Chisnall (4rbi). Oddballs led 15-5 after the third inning and cruised to an easy win. Five O’s were led by Chris Sabean (4rbi) and Daischon Chin (2rbi) in a losing effort.
BGA Hammers 15 EY Bermuda 6
In E Division action, BGA Hammers steamrolled over their two opponents and look to be a strong contender for league champions even this early in the season.
They crushed EY Bermuda behind a balanced attack with Daniel Ball, Jay Fox, Justin Wall, Keisante Grant, Karim O’Connor and Julian Carpenter each contributing with 2rbi. Gaurav Gaurav (3 for 3 – 1rbi) and Craig Munden (3 for 4 – 1rbi) were the standouts for EY.
BGA Hammers 25 Deloitte 3
BGA Hammers also crushed Deloitte. They scored 14 runs in the first inning, including a grand-slam by Todd Diziak, and never looked back.
Deloitte scored all their runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Diziak (7rbi), Daniel Ball (3rbi) and Tim Sherman (3rbi) led the line for BGA. Deloitte could only manage five total team hits with Samson Douglas, Dominique Place and Antoine Jackson each driving in a run.
