A wellness programme offering a fresh look at health for seniors was praised for its contribution to the community.

The Salvation Army launched the Come to the Well campaign to help seniors to maintain their physical and mental health with everyday practices.

Captain Dwayne Barnes, of the Salvation Army, said that Come to the Well stood out because of its “holistic approach” to health.

He added: “During and after the Covid-19 pandemic, we saw Bermuda, like many other countries, dealing with several crises, with people experiencing loss in every possible way.

“Many seniors sought spiritual and mental wellness support through the Salvation Army North Street Centre, and because of this need, the Come to the Well programme was formed.”

The programme was designed to highlight the necessity and promote the benefits of good health and wellness to seniors.

It covered a number of topics, including communication skills, stress management, family behaviour management and managing expectations.

A trained physiotherapist and a professional counsellor were also included in the project.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, said: “On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, I applaud the Salvation Army, facilitators, participants and everyone involved in bringing this milestone to fruition.

“It is always inspiring to hear of initiatives such as Come to the Well, specifically for our seniors.

“This programme provides valuable information and services to our community and creates opportunities to impact people for life.”
