Gold N Glory hits high note

Gold N Glory and driver Christian Truran

Gold N Glory lived up to his name after producing the season’s fastest time during the last round of harness racing at Vesey Street.

Charles Whited’s gelding posted a blistering 1:02/1 competing in the Free for All division to shave three fifths of a second off of the season’s previous fastest time of 1:02/4 held by Simsfield Hardtimes.

“We were very pleased with his performance this past weekend,” Whited said.

“He has missed two race days so we were a little behind the rest of the pack. However, he has been strong the last few weeks and this was a nice reward for all the work that has been put in getting him race fit.”

Gold N Glory’s time was a second shy of the overall track record of 1:01/1, held by Robert and Tyler Lopes’s mare Google Me, and three fifths of a second slower than his lifetime best of 1:01/3, which is also the record for three-year-old horses.

Whited’s horse clocked this season’s fastest time to date en route to winning its heat racing on the rail with driver Christian Truran at the helm.

“This is my first season racing Gold N Glory and I feel that we are really starting to form a bond and I am pleased with how he is training down,” Truran said.

“We missed a couple of race days at the beginning of the season so we had to play catch up a bit but he has responded wonderfully. He is a totally different type of drive from what I have been used to so it’s been a bit of a learning process for me.

“I was very happy with the 1:02/1 last race day. Not only was it the fastest time of the season so far, but also the fastest time I have been in. I am super excited with him and look forward to what the future holds for us.”

Simsfield Hardtimes posted the second fastest time of 1:02/4 to equal the season’s previous fastest time which Aaron Sims’s horse held and has now achieved on multiple occasions.

Google Me posted the third fastest time of 1:03/1 with driver Candyce Martins in the sulky.

Itsallaboutme, Special Gold, Custard the Dragon, Reel Patrol and War Machine were the remaining horses posting sub-1:04 times competing in the Free for All division.

Among the multiple heat winners were Shady Maple, Rock On, Justintime and Special Tux. Racing resumes tomorrow night.
