The Marine Police would like to remind the boating public that over the Cup Match weekend there is likely to be very heavy marine traffic and caution should be exercised.In particular, boat operators are reminded to observe the five knot speed limit within 100 metres of the shoreline and ensure they are not creating a large wake. In bays and beaches care should be taken in the vicinity of swimmers. This is most applicable to jet skis ? which are able to navigate in shallow waters.

The Marine Police would like to remind the boating public that over the Cup Match weekend there is likely to be very heavy marine traffic and caution should be exercised.

In particular, boat operators are reminded to observe the five knot speed limit within 100 metres of the shoreline and ensure they are not creating a large wake. In bays and beaches care should be taken in the vicinity of swimmers. This is most applicable to jet skis ? which are able to navigate in shallow waters.

All boat operators should ensure they have the required safety equipment on board, sufficient fuel for the duration of their trip and limit alcohol consumption.

Boat operators should inform a family member when they are expecting to return ashore and vessels going offshore should file a float plan with Bermuda Radio. Lastly, all boaters are advised to view the Water Safety Council website: http://www.wsc.bm where further information may be obtained. The Marine Police will be patrolling throughout the weekend.

W&E adjust trash schedule

The Ministry of Works and Engineering and Housing has issued a reminder to the public of the Cup Match holiday garbage collection schedule.

East End trash pick-up will proceed today as is normally scheduled with a special Saturday pick-up after the holiday.

Tomorrow, W&E crews will conduct an alternative day trash pick-up for the West End with the next scheduled day being Monday, August 7.

Trenching prompts detour warning

Motorists are advised that Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO) will undertake a trenching operation at the junction of King Street and Reid Street, during Cup Match. The junction will be closed to traffic (except westbound from Middle Road) from 6 a.m. Thursday through midnight Friday. The following closures will be in effect:

Spurling Hill at Front Street

King Street at Front Street

Church Street at Court Street

King Street at Victoria Street

King Street at Church Street

Barriers, no-entry and detour signs will be in place. Access will be allowed on King Street between Victoria and Church Streets. Traffic exiting Hamilton via East Broadway should do so via Front Street. Traffic heading east on Middle Road should do so via Happy Valley and Montpelier Roads. Some restricted traffic flow may be in place on Saturday and Sunday.
