With the wet weather on island seemingly lasting a lifetime, the domestic cricket schedule is starting to be badly hit.

Just one match in the Premier Division and one in the First Division survived last week and this weekend is also off to an inauspicious start with all three matches scheduled for Saturday unable to get under way.

The biggest casualty was the Central Counties first-round match between Western Stars and Devonshire Rec. Supporters of Devonshire Rec would have perhaps turned out in some numbers to watch Bermuda captain Delray Rawlins make a guest appearance, but they were denied the chance as drizzle continued to fall throughout the morning.

Title chasers St George’s and Cleveland County were scheduled to meet at Wellington Oval in the Bermuda Cricket Board 50 Overs Premier Division, but that match was also called off without a ball being bowled, while In the 50 Overs First Division, the match between Somerset Bridge and the under-19 national team was also lost to the elements.

Hopes may be higher for Sunday’s matches with the Bermuda Weather Service forecast for tomorrow described as “generally sunny despite one or two showers”.

That could be music to the ears of unbeaten Bailey’s Bay, who could move a step closer to the championship by beating Western Stars at Sea Breeze Oval.

Last season’s champions St David’s have made a disappointing defence of their title but will be looking to pick up some valuable points against a struggling Warwick Workmen’s Club.

In the first division, Willow Cuts are scheduled to play Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club, with Devonshire Rec down to play at home to Flatts.
