Women’s squad named for Island Games
The Bermuda Football Association have named a strong women’s team for the upcoming NatWest Island Games, taking place in Guernsey.
The 20-strong squad is headed by overseas-based players Leilanni Nesbeth and Eva Frazzon and will kick off their group A campaign against Jersey on July 9, before facing Hitra a day later and concluding with a match against Åland on July 9.
Head coach Naquita Robinson has been left satisfied with the squad at her disposal as the national women’s team, who lifted the Island Games title in Bermuda in 2013, continue preparations towards their Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup qualification campaign later this year.
“We have been working hard in preparation for the Natwest Island Games,” she said. “I am excited about returning to the Games, as we have yet to compete since winning on home soil in 2013.
“The 2023 Island Games is a different test for us as the teams we face are relatively unknown. We have selected a strong squad with most of our players available for the tournament.
“We are up for the challenge and will be there during the medal matches. The Island Games is the beginning of a very active calendar year for the senior women's national team and will be excellent preparation for the Concacaf Gold Cup qualifiers.”
