A course on video game basics has been launched after a successful video game design challenge from the studio Bermuda Island Games.

A six-week course on building your own game starts on July 11 at Warwick Academy.

Lessons include the game-building packages Unity and Roblox Studio.

Adrian Lodge, founder of the company, said it was one of three courses offered this year for “adults and teenagers who want to learn the different aspects of video game development”.

“Our aim is to inspire a new generation of game developers in Bermuda and give them the tools to succeed,” he added.

The courses are geared towards anyone interested in the industry, either as a hobby or a career.

The company offered an introduction to digital artwork course in February and plans to launch a class in October on video game programming using Visual Studio.

The summer course will be held on Tuesdays for students aged 13 to 17 and on Wednesdays for adults aged 18 and above.

Both classes run from 5.30 to 6.30pm.

Bermuda Island Games are also putting on an “e-sports summer camp” at Warwick Academy for children aged 8 to 14 who enjoy playing and competing in video game tournaments.

The camp includes activities such as swimming, basketball and football as well as lessons each week on cyberbullying, online safety, and tips from experts.

The classes have been sponsored by the Government’s Economic Development Department and the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.
