Forum to help people learn more about effects of long-term Covid
A five-day public health forum will teach people about the long-term effects of the coronavirus and how to better care for themselves.
Both local and international doctors will speak at the event, presented by the group Collective Action Solidarity Trust, a non-profit organisation aimed at promoting fairness and respect for everyone.
The series will run from Saturday until Wednesday.
Family physician Henry Dowling will host the forum, which will feature paediatrician Elizabeth Mumper and biologist Christina Parks, both from the United States.
Bermudian family physician Henry Dowling, whose practice focuses on internal medicine, paediatrics and geriatrics, opened Bermuda’s first integrated health practice, Associates in Integrated Health.
Paediatrician Elizabeth Mumper was chief resident of paediatrics at the University of Virginia and developed the first advanced clinical training in paediatrics for the Institute of Functional Medicine.
Molecular biologist Christina Parks earned her PhD from the University of Michigan in 1999, where she researched cytokine, the cells within the body’s immune system.
The series will open on Saturday aboard the Uber Vida yacht.
It will feature live performances and speeches and will take place from 7pm to 10pm.
Dr Mumper will lead Sunday’s presentation, which will centre around the coronavirus’ effects on children and young adults, from 3pm to 6pm at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
Dr Mumper and Dr Parks will host a press conference on Monday at noon and Dr Parks will discuss navigating through immunisation schedules that evening. These events will also be held at the BUEI.
Both doctors will talk about how people can develop their health at St Paul AME Church on Tuesday, starting at 6pm.
The forum will end with a special session for health professionals at the BUEI from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday.
General admission is $25 and patron tickets are $50 for each forum.
Patrons get access to VIP receptions, preferred seating and express entry at their chosen presentation.
The all-access pass, which includes tickets to the opening event on Uber Vida and patron tickets to all forums, are $150.
