Hundreds raise money to support dementia sufferers
Hundreds of runners descended on St George’s on Sunday morning for the Run For Memories.
With some competing against each other and others just against themselves, there was a great atmosphere for the 5km event, which started and finished at East End Primary School.
The run was organised to raise crucial funds for Action On Alzheimer’s and Dementia, which was founded in 2012 to give much needed support to people living with dementia in Bermuda, along with their families and caregivers. An estimated 2,000 people are living with dementia on island at the moment.
The race provided an exciting finish with Adam Prunty first to cross the line in 18min 9sec, just five seconds clear of Philip Woollins, with Will Green and Fred Foxley finishing third and fourth respectively.
Gayle Lindsay, who won the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby last month, was the first female to finish and was fifth overall in a time of 19:42. Maria Kemiji-McDonald was runner-up in the women’s race.
There was a remarkable performance from Naomi MacGuinness, aged just 10, who finished first in her age group, third in the women’s race, and sixteenth overall in 22:06.
