Swimmer Emma Harvey has won Bermuda’s first medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Harvey finished second in the 50 metres backstroke in 29.01sec, just 0.42 seconds behind the winner, Tayde Sensores of Mexico, after booking her spot in the final when qualifying fastest in the morning session in 28.75.

Bermuda’s other representative in the final, Madelyn Moore, just missed out on a medal after finishing an agonising fourth in 29.51, just 0.07 seconds behind Elizabeth Jimenez, of the Dominican Republic, who claimed bronze.

Harvey just missed out on adding a second medal in the pool on Sunday night when finishing fourth in the 100 metres backstroke, failing to grab a medal by just 0.06 seconds behind Kristen Romana of Puerto Rico. Miranda Grana and Athena Meneses, both representing Mexico, finished second.

Earlier in the night, the team of Harvey, her brother Jack, Moore and Benedict Parfit set an unofficial Bermuda record when sixth in the 4x100 mixed relay.
