Artists wanted for exhibition

The City of Hamilton is inviting all artists, from amateur to professional, including students, to submit artwork for an upcoming exhibition of ‘all things Hamilton’. In partnership with the Bermuda Society of Arts, the exhibition is one of many events planned for 2020 that will celebrate the 225th anniversary of the Corporation of Hamilton. The show is due to open on Friday, January 17th.

In January 1795, the first elections took place in the then ‘town’ of Hamilton. The first Mayor, Daniel Tucker, along with his 8-member council were elected by the freeholders of Hamilton and the newly minted Corporation of Hamilton took the helm and has been responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City ever since.

Chief Operating Officer of the City, Dwayne Caines, said of the celebratory exhibition, “The anniversary next year is a significant one. This is a celebration for the entire community and we really want to include everyone in some way. An art show is a perfect way to kick off the celebrations and to give everyone in the community and opportunity to be a part of the revelry. We are excited to see the varied pieces, depicting Hamilton in some way, that are submitted.”

All artwork must be representative of Hamilton in some shape or form. Landscapes, portraits, buildings, the Harbour, in any medium from painting and photogtaphy to mosaic, sculpture and more are welcome. Artwork that does not meet the criteria will not be accepted. Artwork will be for sale unless otherwise stated by the artist. The Bermuda Society of Arts welcomes artwork from members as well as non-members of the gallery but in order to sell their work at the exhibition artists must be a member of the BSoA. Click here for gallery membership information. All artwork must be submitted to the Bermuda Society of Arts by Wednesday, January 15th at 4:00pm.

As an added bonus and incentive, a panel of industry experts will judge the artwork and award cash prizes in three categories – Professional, Amateur and Student. Artists are asked to indictate their category upon submission of artwork.
