Thompson and Bell sent to treatment programme
A pair who dishonestly received more than $1,300 worth of merchandise have been ordered to participate in a court treatment programme.
Jahnika Thompson, 42, from Hamilton Parish, and Norman Bell, 61, of no fixed abode, both admitted when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month to obtaining two mobile phones from Audio Visual electronics, valued at $698, by deception.
The pair also pleaded guilty to obtaining a bike from Social Cycles, valued at $635, also by deception.
Thompson also admitted to dishonestly paying for $672 worth of groceries and a Belco bill.
All offences occurred between October 27 and 29 last year.
During an earlier court appearance, Bell admitted to stealing $150 worth of items from the Warwick Esso station in January.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that the pair take part in drug treatment court for the offences.
The pair are also accused of stealing a laptop from The Berkeley Institute and receiving $60 worth of phone service from One Communications by deception, but denied these charges.
Bell also pleaded not guilty to stealing cash and merchandise from LIV Salon, Coral Beach and Tennis Club and Daylesford Theatre.
The total value of the alleged stolen goods and money surpasses $30,000. The other matters will be mentioned in court at a later date.
