Man fined $1,500 and banned from roads for drink-driving
A man stopped by police in Pembroke Parish was fined $1,700 and disqualified from driving for 18 months.
Ardina Dasilva Cabral, 53, admitted yesterday to driving while over the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration and driving without a licence.
Magistrates’ Court heard that on May 13 officers stopped Cabral after they saw him swerving near the intersection of Crow Lane and Flora Duffy Hill.
When asked if he had anything to drink, Cabral said that he had consumed two beers that evening.
He was taken to the Hamilton Police Station and requested to give a sample of breath for analysis.
The breathalyser test showed that he had 176.1 milligrams of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.
Police also saw that Cabral did not have a driver’s licence, instead having only an expired learner’s permit on him.
Magistrate Craig Attridge fined him $1,500 and barred him from the roads for 18 months for the drink-driving charge.
He also fine Cabral another $200 for driving without a licence.
