Cuts hold no fear of Delray Rawlins-led Warwick
Willow Cuts coach Dexter Basden is adamant his side are not intimidated at the prospect of facing Warwick Workmen’s Club in their Western Counties second-round clash with Willow Cuts at White Hill Field today.
Ahead of the encounter, Cuts have been bolstered by the inclusion of guest player Dominic Sabir as well as former Bermuda Under-19 player Jaiden Manders.
Despite facing an opposition, who boast national captain Delray Rawlins among their ranks, Basden is confident his side can match anyone.
“Our chances are always good, I think we can beat anybody,’’ said Basden. “I've got confidence in my team. Anything can happen, it’s a game of cricket, it’s going to be a good game.”
Rawlins made his return to the club, where he began his career, last weekend as Warwick overcame last year’s winners Southampton Rangers by two wickets.
The all-rounder picked up two wickets as Rangers were bowled out for just 101 runs in 32.2 overs before he contributed 25-runs as Warwick went on to reach their target in 23.3 overs for the loss of eight wickets.
“Delray, being a quality player, can change the complexion of the game with his batting and bowling,’’ said Warwick coach Lorenzo Tucker.
“His bowling in tandem with Malachi Jones the previous match was the chief reason we were able to dismiss Rangers for 101.”
Warwick, who finished second from bottom in the Premier Division, are determined to succeed in the Western Counties.
“With the talent we have in our team, especially bowling, we should be able to get across the line against Willow Cuts,” Tucker said.
“It’s been a long time since we had some success as a club, so we are looking forward to continue that and we not going to relinquish that cup. I do expect a close match.”
The victors of the encounter will go on to play Somerset Bridge in the final at White Hill Field on August 12.
