Man pleads not guilty to touching girl

A man allegedly touched a woman inappropriately multiple times when she was a girl, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

The defendant, 42, from Sandys, pleaded not guilty to directly and indirectly touching the girl, as well as intruding on her privacy, when he appeared in court.

All offences allegedly occurred between March 2013 — when the girl was under the age of 14 — and December 2017.

Neither the woman nor the defendant can be named for legal reasons.

The woman told the court that she often went to the man’s home after school to hang out with her friend, who also lived at the residence.

The friend, who also testified in court, said that the woman was sometimes “called away” by the man.

Once alone with her, the man reportedly touched the girl’s breasts and “rubbed his lower region against hers”.

According to the woman, this occurred many times at the residence and on the Railway Trail, when the man gave her a ride to her house on his bike.

Under cross-examination, the woman said that she still went to the man’s home after the incidents allegedly happened to spend time with her friend.

She said that she did not tell anyone about the man’s alleged actions until she completed sexual abuse awareness training in 2019.

The trial, before magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, continues.
